Community Initiative to benefit The Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter

November is Family Violence Prevention month here in Alberta.
With the alarming rise in calls regarding and the huge rise in reported on earlier this month I felt those of us who are able could make a difference.
People impacted are closer than most of us would like to imagine- they are a neighbour, friend, a colleague’s son, daughter, or parent who is dealing with these unsafe situations and needof a sense of safety, shelter, food, clothing, and counselling to help navigate these difficult family situations.
My hope is our caring community can raise at least $10,000+ in these next 4 weeks to benefit The Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter.
When we learned more children than women would be at the shelter on any given night, Two Birds One Stone Graphic Design team helped us create a campaign using the “Voices of Children” to convey a brighter side to this dark situation. Using sentiments like “We feel safe here,” “Mommy is smiling again” and other comments from the children who have been at The Calgary Women’s Shelter.
If we can raise awareness among at least 30,000 Calgarians between now and the 15th of December and help shed light on the International Day towards the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we will have more open conversations and begin listening attentively to those nearby.
Wonderful side initiatives have sprung up as well. Servus Credit Union – who annually donates 60% of their $2 million community investment budget among their 102Alberta based branches, has been connected to
The Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter.
Calgary’s innovation leader in safety technology – Blackline Safety have recently donated +-200 Calgary Zoo passes to this worthy cause and are also been in conversation with the shelter.
As I write this, I can see we only have $7,150+ on the horizon.
Let’s see how many families we can help this season! Your support is meaningful and we invite you join us. https://bit.ly/AdoptAFamily21
